NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Two children have died four days after being trapped in a fire at a friend's home where they were spending the night.
Kyla Hinton, 1, died Tuesday at Charity Hospital, while her 7-year-old cousin, Dewayne Hickerson, died 15 minutes later, said John Gagliano, chief investigator for the Orleans Parish coroner.
Both children had been admitted with smoke inhalation. Autopsies were ordered.
The fire broke out about 4:15 a.m. Friday at an apartment in the B.W. Cooper public housing project. Two other children in the apartment escaped with minor injuries, authorities said.
