New Jersey Firefighter's Skills To Be Tested In Iraq

A Mantua volunteer whose dream to become a full-time firefighter will get to test his skills by fighting fires on a Marine base in Iraq for one year
David Misilewich, a Mantua volunteer whose dream is to become a paid full-time fireman, is about to be tested under the most difficult circumstances imaginable. The recently married stepfather of two has been hired by the Wackenhut Corp., the No. 1 U.S. provider of contract services to government and other markets, to fight fires on a Marine base in Iraq for one year.

Calling his decision "financial," Misilewich insists he is not concentrating on the potential dangers of being a firefighter in a nation torn apart by war and everyday terrorist activities. Two United States civilian workers have been captured, then executed, by insurgents in Iraq and Saudi Arabia, including New Jersey native Paul Johnson on Friday.
