NEW YORK (AP) -- An off-duty firefighter was arrested and charged with drunken driving early Thursday in Queens.

Police said they stopped the firefighter, Gerard Ferrin, 47, at about 4:15 a.m. in Rockaway Beach for a broken taillight on his car.

Ferrin was arrested after he refused to take a breathalyzer test, police said. A patrol officer noticed about a dozen empty beer cans and a cooler filled with more beer inside Ferrin's car, police said.

No further information was immediately available.
