The occupants of the car, driver Andrew Crown, 30, of Elkton, and Vickie Hall, 38, of Rising Sun, were both taken by Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma to be treated for their injuries.
The driver of the fire truck, Joseph Gilbert, was unharmed, according to an accident report. The truck, a 1987 Ford, belonged to the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun.
Gilbert was driving south on Jacob Tome Highway, or state Route 276, according to an accident report filed at the North East Barrack by Tfc. Chad Warner. Officials at the scene believe he was responding to a fire call.
Crown was traveling east in a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am on Liberty Grove Road and attempted to cross Jacob Tome Highway, pulling out in front of the fire truck at about 9:18 p.m., according to the report.
After impact, the fire truck veered off to the side of the roadway and overturned farther down the road, according to the report. Crown's car came to a stop on an embankment near the intersection.
Shock Trauma emergency room officials did not return calls requesting the conditions of Crown and Hall.
However, officials at the Maryland State Police North East Barrack said they believed both were in stable condition.
The Cecil County Hazardous Materials Response Team was sent to the scene to clean up gas and oil that spilled along Jacob Tome Highway.
