ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- A fire early Wednesday destroyed a three-story house where several University of Michigan football players lived. Four people were hospitalized with minor injuries, authorities said.
Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire, which quickly spread from the porch and into the home near downtown Ann Arbor at 4 a.m. At least 12 people were in the house when the fire started, officials said.
Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr, who arrived at the scene shortly after, said sophomore offensive lineman Grant Long was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Sophomore offensive lineman Adam Krause also suffered minor injuries jumping from a second-floor window.
A woman in the house, who was not identified, suffered smoke inhalation, officials said. A firefighter suffered burns to one of his hands, Fire Chief Joseph Gorman told The Ann Arbor News.
Carr said he would help find the players a place to stay and clothes, since their belongings were destroyed in the fire.
