Four Fostoria firefighters were injured yesterday fighting a blaze that heavily damaged a duplex on East Center Street.

Lieutenant Jeff Frankart said three of the firefighters were taken to Fostoria Community Hospital for treatment and one was admitted. The fourth firefighter filled out an injury report. The lieutenant would not identify the firefighters or discuss their injuries.

Firefighters were called to 612 1/2 East Center at 12:29 a.m. and found flames shooting from the upstairs of the two-story building, Lieutenant Frankart said. The building sustained extensive damage to the vacant upstairs unit and some smoke and water damage to the first-floor unit. Damage was estimated at $40,000.

A tenant on the first floor, Donna Gregg, escaped without injury and was staying with relatives last night, Lieutenant Frankart said.

Authorities said they considered the blaze suspicious, and the state fire marshal's office was investigating.
