ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A man accused of pouring a flammable liquid on his girlfriend and then setting her on fire during an argument Friday has been charged with first-degree assault, police said.

Nathaniel Vickers, 56, was taken to the Anchorage Correctional Facility East. Bail was set at $35,000, police said.

Annette Jamestown, 41, was taken to a hospital for treatment of second-degree burns on her chest, legs and back. Her burns do not appear life-threatening, police said.

The pair had been arguing in an apartment before Jamestown went outside to get into a pickup truck. Vickers followed her out and apparently poured some type of flammable liquid on Jamestown. She was set on fire with a match, police said.

Jamestown began tearing off her clothes as a neighbor ran over to help her put out the flames.

Vickers went back inside the apartment and was arrested a short time later. Police said cocaine was found on Vickers when he was searched.
