The victims, a man and a woman, were found dead on the upper level of 46 Marlene Drive on Thursday night, Nassau County Police said. Police said the pair had not yet been identified early Friday.
A 40-year-old man who lived in the house was able to escape the blaze and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in ``an extremely agitated state of mind,'' police said in a news release.
No further information was immediately available, according to Police Officer Thomas Blanchard, a police department spokesman.
The fire, which was reported at about 8 p.m., caused severe damage to the house, police said. The cause was under investigation, but police said it did not appear to be suspicious.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital, police said.
