Residents in the Jefferson County village of Glen Park were mourning the death of a well-known member of their community Tuesday.

Police said 48 year old Frank Postorino, who lived at 309 Park Street, was killed by an alleged drunk driver Monday night.

Postorino and his wife, Joan, had been planting flowers at the Glen Park welcome sign, when they were struck by a car.

Frank Postorino was described Tuesday as a giving man, who volunteered much of his time to his community.

Not only was Postorino the chief of the Glen Park Fire Department, he was also the village's deputy mayor.

Flags were lowered to half-staff Tuesday outside the fire department and village offices.

People who spoke with 7 News couldn't say enough great things about Postorino.

People said they looked up to him; he was a great family man and a great friend.

"It's going to be a huge loss for the community, the village, for everyone. He was always there when you needed him," said Glen Park Mayor Steven Macaulay.

Postorino was employed for 19 years as a gas mechanic for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation.

A 19 year veteran of the Glen Park Fire Department, Postorino served as fire chief for the last two years.

He became the deputy mayor of the village 12 years ago.

Postorino was a 24 year member of the Antwerp Drum and Bugle Corps; he became manager of the corps in January.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years and two sons. One of the sons, who works for Guilfoyle Ambulance Service, responded to the scene of the accident.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete as of Tuesday afternoon.
