An arsonist hits an area daycare doing thousands of dollars in damage. It happened in Powhatan County at the Children's Academy Sunday morning. Over a hundred children now pack the basement of an area church each day.
"I just couldn't believe it, to me it was devastating a mess. The whole hallway and kitchen area near the front...they had to tear the wall down to keep it from going up into the ceiling ," said Children's Academy president, Nicole Reynolds.
The Powhatan County Sheriff's Department is partnering with the Virginia State Police arson team to investigate the fire.
They tell 8 News they've yet to determine what type of accelerant was used to kindle the blaze but traces of it were found running down the length of the main hallway inside the daycare.
The evidence has been sent to the state lab for testing.
