Six New York State Firefighters Injured In Fire At Battery Plant

Six firefighters were injured in a fire at the Ultralife battery plant in Newark, Wayne County.
Six firefighters were injured in a fire at the Ultralife battery plant in Newark, Wayne County Thursday evening.

The fire broke out shortly before 6 p.m.

Firefighters say an employee was moving a rack of 1,200 batteries when it accidentally tipped over.

The battery terminals touched together and sparked a fire.

Six Newark firefighters suffered burns from a flash while they were battling the fire.

A total of seven fire crews responded to the fire.

Ultralife has cancelled shifts because of the fire. Thursday night's C-shift is cancelled as is Friday morning A-shift. Maintenance workers are still asked to report.
