MCGAHEYSVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Five people died in an early morning house fire in Rockingham County on Friday.
The blaze broke out in a two-story farmhouse at around 4 a.m. and burned the McGaheysville home to the ground, said County Fire Chief Robbie Symons.
Two people escaped the fire. Fire officials did not release the names of the victims.
The bodies were sent to the medical examiner's office in Roanoke. Fire officials will release information about the victims after the autopsies are performed, Symons said.
Investigators probably won't know the cause of the fire until next week, he said. No damage estimates were available
