GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) -- A fire caused several explosions and destroyed a well-drilling business just north of Grand Island Tuesday but did not injure anyone, authorities said.

Nearby areas were evacuated as a precaution but the fire was quickly controlled, said Hall County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Chris Rey.

``Everybody's accounted for,'' Rey said.

The main concern in fighting the fire was the propane tank in the back of the business that was hissing and causing large flare ups, said Grand Island Rural Assistant Fire Chief Pat Nolan.

Neighbors noticed the flames at about 2:00 p.m., authorities said.

The owner of Pollock Well Drilling, Bob Pollock, told KOLN/KGIN-TV in Lincoln that employees were welding earlier in the day and that is what may have caused the fire.

Investigators have not yet ruled on a cause.

A number agencies responded to the fire including, Grand Island Rural Fire Department, Nebraska State Patrol and the Hall County Sheriff's Department, Rey said.
