It happened in the westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

Authorities said the large Canada goose crashed through the van's windshield and hit the driver. The driver lost control of the van, drove up an embankment and smashed into a tree.

The girls were students between 14 and 16 years old, authorities said. The extent of their injuries was not clear, and police did not release any names.
