New York Firefighter Arrested and Charged With Serial Arson

A disturbing arson arrest on Long Island, as one of our bravest is charged with the crime.

For several years merchants in Suffolk County lived in fear of fire sirens. A series of three suspicious fires destroyed local businesses in East North Port.

Now police say they've arrested the person responsible -- and he's a volunteer fireman. This morning 29-year-ld Michael Mayer was arrested.

Authorities say he's responsible for three separate fires dating back to 2002. He's been charged with 3rd degree arson. Despite all the property damage, there were no deaths or major injuries in any of the fires.
