March 30, 2004 -- The FDNY yesterday released its first "Strategic Plan" - including new technologies, training programs and equipment to beef up its counterterrorism and firefighting efforts.

Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta said the cost of the plan - much of which the FDNY hopes to implement over the next two years - will be "several hundreds of millions" of city and federal dollars.

The department has some of the money in hand but will have to seek additional funds to complete its wish list, according to a source.

The plan focuses on key areas that will improve FDNY and EMS operations while helping the FDNY respond "to mystery threats," Scoppetta said.
