HOOSICK FALLS -- Firefighters were able to contain a fire to the wall of a laundry room in a Church Street home this morning.

The call at 7:51 a.m. brought firefighters from Hoosick Falls, North Hoosick and Hoosick to the scene at 166 Church St., when the homeowners, Daniel and Lorenda Thompson, saw what they thought was their clothes dryer on fire.

Instead, said Hoosick Falls Fire Chief Paul Aleksonis, the fire was actually in some electrical wiring in a wall behind the dryer. ``The guys (firefighters) made a wonderful stop. They limited damage to the laundry and an adjoining bathroom,'' Aleksonis said.

There were no injuries and the homeowners will be able to stay in the home once an electrical inspection is done, the chief said.

Firefighters from Buskirk, White Creek, Cambridge and North Bennington, Vt., were also called for stand-by.
