It took three departments to knock down the fire in eastern Kentucky.
Around 5pm Monday, fire officials were working on one of the problem areas alongside the road in the community of Rogers.
Three departments and the division of forestry continued battling the blaze, which was affecting around 80 acres.
Fire officials say the forest fire broke out around noon Monday. They say the fire was intentionally set.
Beth Williams is with the division of forestry. "It's very difficult out here. It puts all of our lives in danger."
As of 6pm, 70 percent of the fire had been contained, but not before it threatened a couple of cabins.
Bobby Sparks owns one of those cabins, "I have a very large investment in it. It appraised for $121,000. I don't have that kind of money to lose."
Forestry officials around the state are battling other small fires. Crews are in the process of mopping up fires in Floyd and Johnson counties and several others are still burning.
24 kentucky counties were under a red flag alert for much of the day. The alert, issued by the National Weather Service means conditions are ideal for forest fires.
Strong southwest winds of up to 30 miles per hour buffetted much of Kentucky Monday, fueling the flames of any fires that did start.
The air is very dry also, which doesn't help matters. Looking ahead, some wet weather is in the forecast, which should help quell further fire concerns.
