A two-alarm fire tore through a West Nashville church early Tuesday morning.
It happened about 3am at the Merry Street Church of God. The fire engulfed an annex building on the back of the church that houses offices and Sunday School classrooms. That part of the building is a total loss. While firefighters worked on extinguishing the fire, members of the church prayed in the parking lot and removed music equipment from the sanctuary to save it from smoke and water damage.
The sanctuary of the church sustained minor damage. One firefighter suffered second-degree burns on his feet, but is expected to recover. Investigators do not yet know the cause of the blaze, but do say that it does not appear to be arson-related.
