PENNS GROVE -- Twenty-one people were left homeless Sunday when fire gutted a West Main Street apartment complex.

One occupant of the 10-unit, three-story frame and brick structure was unaccounted for. Borough Fire Chief Joseph Grasso said several checks of the 27-year-old woman's apartment did not yield any evidence she was there at the time the fire broke out.

Another tenant -- Tracy Jones, 27 -- was severely burned in the fire, which took volunteers from 11 Salem and Gloucester county companies over four hours to extinguish. Jones, burned over 60 percent of her body, was listed in critical condition Sunday night in the Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Upland, Pa., Grasso said.

A borough firefighter, Charles Brayerton, suffered smoke inhalation and the "possibility of electrical shock," Joe Grasso said. Brayerton was treated at Memorial Hospital of Salem County, Mannington Township, and released.
