An ambulance service in Harlan County will close Monday.

Concerned citizens, EMS personnel, and government officials, met to discuss the closing of Mountain EMS.

The ambulance service was ordered to close because of failure to make tax payments. Owners say close to $175,000 has been billed to medicaid since October and medicaid has paid them less than $2,000.

With the closing of Mountain EMS, Lifecare Ambulance will be the only service available in the county, but officials say they plan on expanding their services to meet the demand.
