A Good Samaritan, a cop and a team of firefighters came to the dramatic rescue of a family of four yesterday - but the real hero was a wheelchair-bound woman who shielded her three kids with her body while flames engulfed their Bronx home. Fire Lt. William McGee said Susan Jackson, 46, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, managed to corral her 3-year-old granddaughter and two teenage sons into a rear bedroom in their Dereimer Avenue ranch house.

"That woman laid on top of her kids to protect them. She managed to keep them safe and away from the fire. That's heroic," said McGee.

Jackson's limp body was found still on top of one of the kids, believed to be the granddaughter, Migdalia. Both were carried unconscious in pitch-black smoke from the burning house by McGee and Firefighter Kevin Wacha.

Jackson, son Marcus, and Migdalia were in serious condition yesterday at Jacobi Medical Center.
