Jersey City's bravest are credited with saving the life of a 90-year-old man who was overcome by smoke while trying to flee a fire in his fourth-floor apartment last week, officials said.

Firefighter Joseph Novembre found the unconscious man when he entered the burning apartment on Kennedy Boulevard near Duncan Avenue on April 8, at 6 a.m., Fire Capt. Andrew Johnson said.

The man wasn't breathing and he had soot stains on his mouth and nose, a classic sign of smoke inhalation, Johnson said
