Patrick Geary raced to infernos down Morristown's streets in a horse and buggy as a member of the Washington Engine Company, doused fires with a steamer pumper and started in 1904 what would become a family tradition of firefighting.
Geary's sons and nephews would also join the ranks, and at one point, 13 Geary boys were on the rolls at a time.
The Gearys' dedication as volunteer firefighters has spanned 100 years and four generations, making them one of the longest-serving volunteer firefighting families in Morris County.
