EASTAMPTON - A three-alarm fire severely damaged an apartment building here yesterday, leaving 21 people homeless, a fire official said.

Firefighters responded to the blaze that began at Building K of the Eastampton Garden Apartments in the first block of Tudor Court about 2 p.m., said Philip Polios, deputy chief of the Eastampton Fire Rescue Department.

Upon arrival, residents already had evacuated and the fire that began in unit 5K had vented out a front window, Polios said. It quickly extended up the building's exterior and into the attic, he said.
