But this year's race in Franklin Township's Fire District 3 was anything but routine, and it's still playing out with another court hearing scheduled for tomorrow.

Sparks began Feb. 21 when in that district -- which consists of the Somerset County neighborhoods of Franklin Park, Little Rocky Hill and Griggstown -- candidate James Greene and challenger Frederick Wian finished the election in a 49-49 tie. Incumbent Jack Ritterson had 22 votes.
