WORTH COUNTY -- An off-duty Moultrie firefighter died Thursday in a four-wheeler accident in southern Worth County.

Assistant Fire Chief Lamar Plymel confirmed the death about 9 p.m. Thursday. Plymel said officials were still trying to locate the firefighter's family at that time, so he did not release the man's name.

"From what I understand," Plymel said, "he was riding on a dirt road. He went around a curve too fast and hit a tree."

The Georgia State Patrol post in Albany, which is investigating the accident, confirmed there was a fatal all-terrain vehicle crash on Oak Piled Road off Highway 33 in Worth County. The GSP had no further information to release Thursday night -- neither the victim's identity nor any details about the cause of the crash.
