BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP - The township committee has decided to trim $48,315 from Fire District No. 2's defeated $1.2 million budget, bringing the average tax increase, originally proposed at about $25, down to about $8.

Under the revised spending plan, the fire tax rate will rise from 20.2 cents to 20.8 cents per $100 of assessed property. This means the owner of a home assessed at $133,000, the township average, will pay about $277 in fire taxes this year, or about $8 more.

Had the budget passed at the polls as originally proposed, the fire tax rate would have risen 1.9 cents to 22.1 cents per $100 of assessed property value. This means the owner of a home assessed at the township average would have paid about $294 in fire taxes, or about $25 more than last year.
