A fire that swept through an Elizabeth home early yesterday killed one man sleeping in the basement where the blaze is believed to have started, authorities said.

An electrical fire at 414 Linden St. killed Olnick Jean Luce, but spared the lives of four other inhabitants of the 2 1/2-story house.

The three-alarm blaze broke out around 12:10 a.m. after flames from the basement worked their way up a rear wall to the upper floors, according to acting Elizabeth Fire Chief Edward Sisk.
