Contoversy Brewing Over Recent Connecticut Firefighter Exams

(New Haven-WTNH) The Civil Service Commission Thursday failed to certify the results of the most recent exams for fire lieutenant and captain in the New Haven Fire Department.

The city had suggested the results be thrown out for potentially discriminating against African Americans and Latinos, and it agrees with the outcome.

The firefighters union is blasting the decision. It says firefighters spent more than $60,000 each on two exams that produced no promotions.

The union says the decision demeans the department's current lieutenants and captains and wants those responsible for the testing held accountable.
