EWING - The green of St. Patrick's Day gave way to the red of flames and fire truck warning lights as Ewing emergency crews responded to a three-vehicle accident and two fires during a two-hour period yesterday evening.

It started at 5 p.m. when township police officers, volunteers from all three Ewing fire companies and ambulances from Ewing and Lawrence were sent to a collision involving a sport utility vehicle and two cars at Lower Ferry Road and Theresa Street.

The female driver of one of the cars was trapped in the wrecked vehicle so firefighters had to pry open the jammed door on the driver's side.
