DEERFIELD TWP. -- A letter will be going out to both Rosenhayn and Carmel Fire Companies asking them to comply with an appellate court decision and turn control of their equipment, in particular their motor vehicles, over to the township.
Committeeman Cosmo Laurella said all equipment, even if paid for by the company, needs to be in the name of the township because of a court decision which says townships can not contribute to private organizations.
"By appellate court decision, they say all equipment the township contributes to or repairs must be under our name," he said. "Both companies have their fundraisers to buy equipment, which help the taxpayers, but we can't contribute to a private organization and, therefore, the titles must be under the township's name."
