Two young Greeneville men were injured, one seriously, on Tuesday afternoon when a car they apparently were taking for a test drive went out of control on Snapps Ferry Road and plunged into a creek.

The driver of the car was Jeffery D. Morgan, 20, of Indian Hills Drive, Greeneville police said this morning.

The injured passenger was Carl Edward Greene, 19, of Crum Street, officers said. On Tuesday afternoon, GPD Officer Mike Crum, who is investigating the 1:06 p.m. accident, said witnesses told him that the gold Nissan 240SX sport coupe had been traveling north on Snapps Ferry at an apparent high rate of speed when it suddenly veered off the right side of the road.

After leaving the road, the car went airborne for a distance of about 50 feet and plunged to the bottom of a steep ravine where it struck a large rock and flipped over, Officer Crum said.

The car then came to rest on its wheels in a creek at the bottom of the steep-banked ravine.

Officer Crum said the car apparently had been taken from a West Andrew Johnson Highway used-car lot for a test drive.
