BLACKSTONE, Va. (AP) -- Six firefighters were injured in a blaze that destroyed two buildings and knocked out telephone service Thursday in this southern Virginia town.

The fire was brought under control after three and a-half hours. Three of the firefighters were treated at a hospital and released.

The fire started in an alley behind a restaurant and destroyed the eatery and a fitness center.

Nore than 150 firefighters from 10 counties responded to the fire, which included a backdraft explosion.

``It was very violent, pandemonium. It was very disorganized for a few minutes,'' said Fire Chief Mac Osborne, who was standing in front of the restaurant and witnessed the explosion.
