Wilmington firefighters rescued two young children from a burning row house Friday and The News Journal caught the incident on tape.
Both children -- a 3-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy -- suffered from severe smoke inhalation after being pulled from the home in the city's 1100 block of Pleasant St. in the city's Hilltop neighborhood.
They were transported by ambulance to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Rockland.
The boy later was transferred to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and was listed in critical condition Friday night.
The girl was listed in serious but stable condition.
Lt. Erick Haley and Firefighter Neil Skinner went upstairs and rescued the children from the structure.
"This was good, tough city firefighting," Deputy Chief Al Huelsenbeck said. "We got them kids out of there eight minutes after the call."
Other occupants in the home exited safety and no firefighters were injured.
There were no working smoke alarms in the residence and the cause of the fire and its origin remain under investigation.
