It was a sickening sight for several families in the Madison area when fire leveled their apartment homes Monday evening. It happenened at the Sealey Apartments at Monticello and North Dupont.

When firefighters arrived, they found Building B fully engulfed. The building has 16 units, half of which were occupied. Firefighters moved in fast to save residents from the flames and to protect nearby buildings.

Resident Alfredo Hueguerra said that he was sitting in his apartment when he saw the smoke pouring from the ceiling. He ran out with his kids, grabbing an elderly neighbor on the way.

Through the overnight hours and in the coming days, the Red Cross will be helping Alfredo, his family, and his neighbors. In the meantime, fire officials will continue to look into what sparked the blaze. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
