Ride Collapse At New Jersey Fair Linked To Safety Violations

June 29, 2004
South Brunswick Deputy Fire Marshall Michael Whalen said the school did not have a permit to hold the fair, and that the slide was unlicensed by the state
An inflatable ride that collapsed during a school fair in South Brunswick on Sunday and injured eight children was improperly installed and had too many kids on it, officials said yesterday.

The inflatable slide collapsed around 1:30 p.m. Sunday during a fair at the Noor-Ul-Iman School, sending eight children tumbling from as high as 15 feet, police said. The children were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they were treated for minor injuries, according to police reports.
