The Camillus Volunteer Fire Department is splitting from the Village of Camillus.

At a news conference Tuesday, the department announced its decision to become independent.

The department says it's located outside the Village and falls under the jurisdiction of the Town of Camillus.

Some long-time members of the department say the move will hurt the community and divide membership.
