A Queens paramedic and former firefighter who dedicated his life to saving others was buried yesterday after a standing-room-only funeral service at a church barely a half-mile from where he was murdered.
Erick Gonzalez, also known as "Eddie" and "Big E," was remembered as a kindhearted and selfless person who made helping others a way of life.
Gonzalez was shot twice in the chest after arguing with a patron at an after-hours bar in Queens on Feb. 22. He died two hours later.
More than 500 friends and family members packed the St. Raphael's Roman Catholic Church in Long Island City to bid farewell to the EMT who was only 30, but had already saved countless lives.
Gonzalez's mother, Gloria, stumbled into the church behind the casket, her face in tears.
Gonzalez was buried in Calvary Cemetery in a private ceremony.
