Springfield Gardens -- One of three overnight fires in Queens has left a young child dead and an adult in extremely critical condition.

A two-year-old girl, Riamenne Jeanti, was killed in this fire. The apartment building went up in flames around 1:30 a.m. Also in the hospital from this fire in critical condition is Sam Salise, a 69-year-old man. They all lived in the apartment together.

However, what is more disturbing is that fire inspectors and the victim's family say that the victims probably could have escaped alive but the 69-year-old man tried to save the kids and then put out the flames all by himself.

Stan Solise, Victim's Son: "He loved those kids. He tried to take that baby out the back window. He tried to save those kids."

There was also a second fire overnight in Springfield Gardens. It happened at a commercial building on Rockaway Boulevard. There were no injuries reported from this fire.

The third fire last night happened in Long Island City. There were also no injuries reported from this fire.

However, the most tragic fire this morning saw the two year old girl, Riamenne Jeanti killed and left a 69-year-old in the man, Sam Solise, in the hospital fighting for his life. The family says he is not doing well and he is badly burned.
