JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Four people in two vehicles were killed Sunday in a fiery head-on collision that produced flames so hot that both vehicles were welded together, officials said.

The victims' identities were not immediately released, said Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Bill Leeper, though he said one is believed to be a 9-year-old child.

Investigators were searching for more victims in the burned wrecks.

A pickup truck crossed the center lane of U.S. 90 and collided with an oncoming car about 31 miles west of Jacksonville, troopers said. The vehicles burst into flames.

``The crash was so bad the heat from the fire actually welded the vehicles together,'' Leeper told The Florida Times-Union. ``To survive something like this is very rare.''
