(Brooklyn-WABC, February 18, 2004) -- There is a four-alarm fire burning in Brooklyn.

There is a great deal of smoke coming from this fire and it is blowing south into several Brooklyn neighborhoods. So its the smoke that is causing a problem because this fire has been burning since 3:30 a.m. this morning.

This is a four-alarm fire burning at the intersection of Water Street and Gold Street in a Brooklyn neighborhood known as Vinegar Hill in Brooklyn. It is a small strip of land between the Brooklyn Navy Yard and the Manhattan Bridge. Flames are now starting to come out the front of the building.

As the fire first began, the fire department came on the scene and quickly decided to remove all personnel from the building. They have all backed out and this is an exterior attack only. It is a four-story building and there are no residents at the scene of the fire.

Four firefighters have been transported to local hospitals for smoke inhalation.

There are no major street closures involved from this fire. Also, there are no major delays on the BQE yet and people are driving through the smoke on the Hillary Street exit.
