LAWRENCE - A township fire chief en route to a fire call at the Mercer Mall in his official vehicle collided with a car he was trying to pass on Province Line Road yesterday, police said.

Chief Donald Huber, 51, of the Lawrenceville Fire Co. was driving a Ford Explorer east on Province Line Road with its overhead lights and siren on while responding to a 1:12 p.m. fire alarm at a store in the mall, said police Sgt. David Buxton.

Huber was passing vehicles on the two-lane road when a car ahead of him, driven by Sean Brown, 19, of Bayville, Berkeley Township, was stopped to make a left turn at Stratford Drive, Buxton said.
