Penrose firefighter Mike Lynch died Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic near the intersection of U.S. 50 and Colo. 115.

Lynch, 32, was taken to St. Thomas More Hospital after the accident occurred at 4:54 p.m. He was pronounced dead around 7 p.m.

Lynch was directing traffic for a previous crash, which was blocking the right lane of Colo. 50.

Trooper Richard Breece of the Colorado State Patrol was at the scene of the accident and was also directing traffic at the time of the incident.

"Basically, what happened is there were two cars in the eastbound lane on U.S. 50 at the junction with Colo.115," Breece said. "The car on the right made a sudden change into the path of the car in the left lane and rolled across the median and into the right-hand westbound lane."
