Two fires were reported burning in Hanover County early this evening.

A three-alarm fire heavily damaged the Days Inn motel on Route 54 in Ashland.

About a third of the approximately 150 rooms were damaged by fire, smoke or water. A maintenance employee was being treated for injuries not believed life threatening, fire Lt. William Jones said.

The fire was reported about 4:40 p.m. and brought under control about 7 p.m. Firefighters were still battling hot spots at 7:30 p.m.

Jones said it is believed the fire started on the first floor in a "void space" outside of the rooms. The cause hasn't been determined.

Hanover authorities said the second fire, in a warehouse on Progress Road in the Hanover Industrial Air Park, was reported about 7 p.m. Progress Road is parallel to Interstate 95. Hanover called in extra equipment and requested a ladder truck from Henrico County.

There was no immediate word about injuries or the extent of damage at the Air Park fire.
