An accident in rural Woodbury County claims the lives of four Siouxland girls and sends another teen to the hospital. Investigators say the girls were riding on snowmobiles when they were hit by a 16 year-old boy driving a pick-up truck. The accident happened Friday evening just before 5 o'clock about a mile outside of Pierson.

One girl died at the scene, the others were life-flighted to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Two of the girls died last night, and one died this morning. Police say the teen driver, whose name has not been released, was also taken to the hospital.

We talked to several people in Pierson about the accident. Mayor Max Dunnington says the people who live in the small town are in shock.

All of the victims went to school in the Kingsley-Pierson school district. The schools superintendent Mike Sherwood says "It's a tragic accident involving five students." Sherwood says there will be a crisis management team at the schools when students return on Monday.
