There is a developing story in New Jersey. One person has died in an early morning fire in Newark. And fire officials are calling it suspicious.

Family members are very upset about the news they received just a short time ago. They found out that Jamar Carter was found dead inside his home on Oakland Terrace. Officials say a fire killed the 36-year-old.

He was found in the kitchen area. That is where officials believe the fire started. The call came in around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. When crews arrived, flames were shooting out of the home.

Relatives tell Eyewitness News that his two daughters, ages 14 and 8, live with him. But the girls were spending the weekend with their grandmother in another home.

Arson investigators are on the scene. They are labeling the fire as suspicious, saying "something just isn't right with this one."

Eyewitness News also spoke with Carter's 18-year-old son. He said he was devastated by his father's death. He said he was looking forward to spending Sunday with him. They were going to go driving together because he was about to get his driver's license.
