An autopsy report is still pending on a Porter volunteer firefighter killed on the job nearly ten months ago.
The open case means Gary Lee Staley's family, including his nine-year-old daughter, cannot collect insurance benefits. It's a problem that has the Porter Volunteer Fire Department, the Montgomery County Fire Marshal and the Harris County Medical Examiner's office all pointing the finger at each other. Those who know the family say the case is tragic.
"They're real fine people. They're good people and their granddaughter is a nice little girl," said Max Neely with the Porter Volunteer Fire Department. "And the boy was a good fireman. I hate that he lost his life."
The medical examiner's office is reportedly waiting on the cause of the fire that killed Staley. That has to come from the Montgomery County Fire Marshal
