TRENTON - A fire that trapped three residents on the roof of their three-story house Wednesday is being investigated as "suspicious in origin," after authorities found a flammable liquid on the side door of the home.

A small blaze started on the side door of a house in the 600 block of Whitaker Avenue around 4 a.m., fire Capt. Peter Fiabane said.

City police and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office continue to investigate the incident that detectives believe may be arson, Fiabane said yesterday.
