Families living in 17 units in a North Miami housing complex were displaced Sunday night when a fire broke out in a second-floor apartment of the building.
About 60 firefighters responded to the fire, which occurred about 8 p.m. at 14560 NE Sixth Ave. No fatalities or injuries were reported, firefighters said.
Lt. Eugene Germain Jr., a public information officer with Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue, said two of the apartments on the second floor sustained heavy damage, and residents in 17 units were displaced because of smoke.
The Red Cross was on the scene Sunday night to provide shelter and emergency care.
The fire is under investigation, Germain said.
